Of all the birds I like the sparrows best
They are so nosy, saucy and so fresh,
Although they do not even have a crest
Are disrespectful roisterous and brash

They come and sit upon our clothesline
Keen instinct tells them food is close at hand
And tweeting find our bird house near the vine
And take control at once - impertinent!.

I love the sparrows and the little finch,
They peep and chirrup rather than they sing
Try daring them, and see they yield no inch
But kick and brawl and hop - inspiring!

Our birdhouse does resemble a chalet
With wooden roof and walls, its floor a tile,
Its built with sticks from our landlord’s shed-
A handiwork in perfect Austrian style.

Assembling on our clothesline sparrows swing
Watching my hand that fills the plastic scoop
From boisterous little throats- what roistering!
As they descend in a conspicuous swoop..

And now they spar and skirmish for fresh seed,
I lift the window just a tiny crack
And off the fly but quick return to feed
And deal their comrades left and right a smack

Incredible! - delightful company!-
I seem to have for sparrows such a flair,
Perhaps it is a strong affinity,
Among the many one more roisterer.

Yet not one single feather that they wear
Falls without purpose on the frozen sod.
And none of them escapes the Father’s care
For saucy sparrows are beloved by God.

Such a tiny bird to be so boisterous, and energetic; such a tiny poet to be so full of life, and observant. God does indeed care for the tiniest of His creations. They do wonders for His image . . . God doesn’t create anything that’s worthless. In all things there is value, and a reason to be. You, like the sparrow, excel in the value he has bestowed on you through your talents. KUDOS!
