Beauty lies where death has strolled
Beneath a tombstone solid, cold
Swathed in shadows, crying out
"Let not iniquitous Time rouse
The horrendous process of ripping apart
The memory of me within your heart!
Oh! Bury recollections deep
And of your memories, dare not speak
Seal them then in a chamber dark
Hint not of what is in your heart!"

And there among the other dead
A lover nodded and bowed his head
Promising ever to hold her dear
To utter no word, to cry no tears
Kneeling then, he whispered to her
"I understand, Love - I shall concur
And though the moon has lost its glow
Nary a man will ever know
That it is your face I see as I dream
And that only for you, did alive I seem"

There beneath the frozen ground
Did her spirit linger to carry on
Renewing her vow to the one above
Proving then an endless love
"Slumber Love, give yourself to rest
Dream of what only we possess
I shall return as the seasons shift
And in between, never speak of this
For my Darling, I know at the end
We shall be together once again."

She closed her eyes and slipped away
To wait in peace for that day
As he placed roses atop the stone
And then left her there... alone. [comments] => 20 [counter] => 358 [topic] => 22 [informant] => Silent-No-More [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 60 [ratings] => 12 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LostLove )

You have indeed adopted Poe's often morose tone and style.
Being a great fan of his, I am most impressed by this piece.
You have arranged a melodic flow and tell-tale poetic expression with such facility, it is almost perplexing... how you have indeed, managed so!
This piece reminds me of Gothic dirge.
Poe would have had great content, as have I, purely viewing your not so unlikely tribute of a piece.
All praise and glory.

Oh my...
Wow Snemmy, this is one of my favourites of yours, definatly.
I love that, though, when reading something, inspiration hits so fast, and the writing sweeps you away...and it carries onward to sweep the reader away, too.
And I have definatly been swept away...
This is a beautiful stroy hun, though very very sad, and for some reason, I can see a little sleeping beauty in it. Heh.

Anyway, I'm gonna shut up, or I'll carry on all day.

Stunning write my friend,
Phil

SNM,
sigh, you know I love this.
Your use of words in this piece is simply pure genius! I bow down before your poetic skill and await the day you take your poetic place among the greats like Poe, Plath and Sexton.

An amazing flow of words that overpower the dam and flood the heart with a surge of memories and thoughts, long shared, now secretly put to rest until that future time of reuniting. I see a love story . . . not a tale of sadness.

I am awed by your skill with words.

John

Beautiful write, and the power and emotion really pulled me in. There is a deep sense of sadness with the parting and loss through death. Yet there is some peace and hope to meet again. A very tender and loving image.

A heartfelt sharing,

Willofree

That was so gorgeous. Sad and painfully beautiful. I loved the style of it,
older and ... yeah... it takes more thought to work this out. Nice job on this.
I adored it and could read it many many times and not tire of it.
Thank you for posting it!

goodness I love Poe but do not believe I
have had the pleasure of reading "The
Sleeper". Anyway this poem was very good
had amazing flow and was very poetic as well
as stunning imagery. I will now shut up and go read it again.

Your poem has me crying and trying to recollect myself. Even though as someone once said that monuments are made for the living---when you visit the stone and place flowers upon it---it just breaks you in to.

But the way you wrote this did remind me of the infamous poets of yesteryear. Who could pen words that were timeless- as is this poem.

I am so enamored with this type of poetry that I often buy old poetry books--because of the history, the writings and the impressions they leave on me. I actually have some in quill, personal poetry of people who were never famous but wrote their poems down. It is amazing to watch the calligraphy form words.

I tend to ramble when I really like a poem.

Kie (Who in real life speaks rarely)

I LOVED this one.

I've looked at this from many angles, for many could be applied. I would have to say the one I appreciate the most, is that love is an extension of the spirit and through that they will be ever tied, yet love encompasses and celabrates life as well and it is his understanding that her love of him ( her spirit ) wishes he still embrace and attempt to enjoy life, not to end his celebration. They know their bond will hold and in time ... his journey of discovery will end and she will be there for him to speak of it all to.

Nazzy ~
( absolutely loving the twists and spins this put him into ) ... ( and leaving a ramble to prove it )

sad, sad, beautiful, sad...beautifully sad! lol, but anyways there's no surprise that i truly enjoyed reading this poem. The subject matter is one that I have a soft spot for, always enjoying how relationships can last under such circumstances. There are two things that I always enjoy seeing in poetry nowadays-- conclusions and rhyme schemes. Lol, and your writes have those in spades. The impact of this conclusion made me read it all over again, because it was just that good. The rhyme scheme was also look after and seems to be considered greatly, which is just easier on the tongue if I was to read it aloud to myself. It just flowed so beautifully, and last but not least (although technically I guess I mentioned it above,) I loved the story! It was just...*is trying not to use 'beautiful' anymore..* um....

...superb : )

I love the flow of it; how the rhymes are simple and not forced into fitting in. Quite refreshing, really, seeing a poem where the words just go. The impact's not quite so simple as the rhymes, and the last line ends it well.

I'll leave with that... have a date with the rest of your poetry. I've got catching up to do, heh.

Keep writing,
-Eve.
