In my younger years
I was afraid to grow up
Perfectly content to drink
From a sippy cup
No aspirations
To grow big and tall
I was having too much fun
Playing ball
No responsibilities
And no cares
Always willing
To take a dare

But it had to happen
And I grew up
And now I drink
From a coffee cup
With my son
At my feet
A little me
It’s so neat
And once again
I’m afraid
I have no magical potion
At my aid
To keep this boy
From growing up
And drinking from
A big boys cup

No way to stun
His future growth
No way to make him promise
To take an oath
To remain my little boy
No never grow up
To never drink from that
College town cup
Cause I don’t think I could handle
Him moving away
When he’s old enough
To have his say

Too fast these years
Will come and go
And only pictures
Will I have to show
Of my precious boy
Of these wonderful years
The very thought
Brings me to tears
I want to hang on
I don’t want to let go
So I pray to God
To let him grow real slow

Now once again
I’m afraid to grow up
Afraid to drink
From the aging cup
Afraid that everything
I hold so dear
Won’t be here
In my senior years
No little child
At my feet
To inviting smile
In which to greet

really good write. Im scared to grow up but its part of life so all you can do is "live life to the fullest" i know its an old saying but its so true. Enjoy the years as they come and dont worry about the future too much.
