Array ( [sid] => 89097 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => And It Happens All The Time [time] => 2005-03-28 18:29:53 [hometext] => This is for everyone who's ever been let down, shot down, rejected or denied. This is more of a 'finally muster up the guts after so long and BAM... shot down' kind of thing for me... [bodytext] => She'd built her whole life downward
Thinking she'd been just so-so
However, as of late she'd come to see
Just exactly how great she'd been all along
And so she decided to ascend the stairs.
She began building up, taking opportunities
Seizing victories when she saw them.
When she finally came to the top of the stairs
She looked to him with bright shining eyes,
Her whole heart brimming in anticipation.
--She could do it!
--And she knew it!
So she held out her hand-- but...
In all the excitement she lost her balance.
She stumbled down a couple of steps
And there she stayed but worked harder still
And it took her a while longer but soon she was there.
So carefully she held out her hand.
To her ecstatic surprise, he took it!
He held it there for a moment or two.
Then with a sudden jerk he twisted, pushed
And knocked her down.
And down the stairs she tumbled, thinking,
"Maybe I was never so great after all."
And she began to fade away slowly ever after.

*sigh*

Hun... Gosh, I know this..

You have said it in such a way, that it really does hit the reader where it hurts.
I like your idea, your metaphor, it's very clever and original.

I hope things work out for you soon.

I read this before, but never had a chance to comment on it. I liked it, sad as it was. The last line was ironically and beautifully sad. Well done, as I've come to expect...
