And it's better that way
But I wonder if you know
How much you hurt me

You were a "kindred spirit"
Someone I trusted
Mom had cancer
The world was upside down
I was so afraid I would lose her
My family was falling apart
You were someone who I could believe in
And follow
A steady prescence
Always kind and funny
I could run to you
And know you would care

But then one day
You turned away
It was worse than a slap in the face
You hated me
I can see it in your eyes still
It is even worse now
I am someone you pick on and yell at
And you enjoy it
I am someone you despise
When you look at me
I can see how ugly I am in your eyes

It hurt me so much
I wish I could drown you
In the tears you made me cry
You are so two-sided
One side
Is kind and funny
The side I always wished you would show to me
But you only show me the ugly side of you

And I want to hate you for your betrayal
But I can't
Love that strong doesn't go away
It just turns to pain
I can never hate you
You take advantage of that
But only when no one is looking [comments] => 6 [counter] => 179 [topic] => 48 [informant] => NightOwl [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

When I read your title I recalled a poem I had written many years ago with the same title so I just had to read this.

It is a good poem and I don't think the people who hurt us ever really know how much it does hurt.
