Is that why you treat me this way
All the abuse you give me
The torment and dismay

I jump from my own shadow
In fright and in fear
Thinking you're behind me
My face embarked with tears

I run from you
For I fear for my life
Always looking over my shoulder
Scared that you might strike

When I was unaware
you caught me off guard
I panicked and trembled
As you belted me hard

I tried to scream
But you muffled the yells
Hitting me harder
I wondered if I'd live to tell

What did I ever do
To deserve abuse like this
When we were first married
We enjoyed wedded bliss

After you lost your job
You started to drink
Things changed dramatically
Pushing you to the brink

I finally packed, I left
Now I'm on the run
Hoping that you'll never find me
Or else I'll wear the bullet from your gun [comments] => 10 [counter] => 257 [topic] => 66 [informant] => mina-1 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 19 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => drugabuse )

Wow now this is heart wrencingly sad.
I've only been hit once by a man and he threatened me again many years after I divorced him. I put my finger in his face and told him if he ever hit me again that he best kill me 'cause I'd hunt him down like a rabid dog. he never did but little did we both know my son was out in the breeze way with a club and was comming in after him but his friend talked him out of it 'cause it was his father.
He's an alcaholic too.
I live alone now.
I'd rather be alone than put up with abuse again.
Get your own gun as it jus might save your life.
It's so sad to me that any man try's any kind of abuse to make himself feel better.
Go take some karate or tai bo aore something like that. You'll feel better about yourself and can find some inner peace. I use to have some tai bo tapes and use to do it with my grandkids. Especiall my son's three girls. In this day and age a person needs self defense 'cause u never know.
I've never had to use it much but hey it works and the few times I needed it the other persons backed down from me.
You're always in my prayers friend.
luv, huggs, safety,
emy

This poem touched my heart. It feels like you reached into my head and pulled out terrible memories of my past. You captured the feelings so well. I remember the times were I would jump from my own shadow. Though I was not married to this man, I did fall in love I was with him for a few years, and I found myself not knowing what to do. I thought if I left he would hunt me down and kill me. When I finally did get the nerve to break it off, i was right he did come after me I ended up with 2 broken ribs, a damaged strenum and bruises everywhere the eye could see. Fortunately he went to jail and I could come down. Then I met Rob fell head over heels for him, then he took his own life. Watch out for yourself if this poem is about you. Do what Emy said take some self defense classes. Take care hun.

Oh Sue.... I'm glad you got out and I hope he never ever finds you.
I really hate poems like this, but at the same time, I love them because of how real they are, I just hate the abuse.
This is so sad, sweetie.

Great write,
Phil
