Is it?—Too early for dinner, too late
For lunch. Eating alone is depressing:

Staring at an empty chair, chewing
Slowly, making dinner last all night
And skipping dessert because you

Have no one to share it with. No one
To share uncomfortable silences; to
Ask you how your food tastes; how

Your day was and what you’re doing
Tomorrow. Watching people around
You, enjoying their food, enjoying

Their conversations about how sad
You look eating by yourself; about
How nice it is to have someone to

Help fill the gaps between ordering
Appetizers and calculating the tip on
A cocktail napkin. Gratuitous glances

Over your shoulder: watching the door
For a quick glimpse of people walking
Hand-in-hand toward their table, not

Aware of your presence. Getting up
To leave and realizing you have no
One to wait for - no reason to hold

The door – so, you go home to an
Empty apartment and a refrigerator
Full of doggy bags and leftovers.

Awww this is so sad....and yea it is very depressing to eat alone and do all these things alone.....i have found what's most depressing is when im out in public and i see people kissing, holding hands, and doing all that love stuff...that's what i find hard to cope with...it's very painful...thanks for sharing this one it gives one alot to think about...

This is so heartbreaking. It's hard to even imagine that feeling...
