Electrical giants need painted
to keep the current flowing.

Didn't ever even think about
those enormous steel beasts,
needing any kind of care.
Knew they carried electricity
and that they stand in the field...
out there.

Well, then I met my man, you see
who came to paint near my town.
Learned all about electrical tower
and pole painters.
How they love being free in the air,
feet off the ground.

I learned what they call different parts
of a tower....
Horns on top are goatheads,
horns pointing down, doglegs.
The top square inside is called the spider
and looks just like a cage.
Toenails(it sounds so cute) is what they call
the towers' legs.

I learned they paint with buckets
attached to their belts.
Each one filled with paint,
weighs about 45lbs.
They paint the steel with mitts
on each hand.
Start at the top of the structure
paint their way down.

They climb around like monkeys.
Brothers are some crazy acrobats!
They get in some strange positions
painting that steel.
They wear lanyards to keep them attached,

They paint tall steel electric poles as well.
Crawling on their bellies
to paint the poles' arms.
Dangling way up high.
Fascinating work these fellows do.
I just thought they should be recognized.

Bravo! to all the Brothers of the High Steel.

Steel Painters In The Sky

He sounds like my son cause he did this before he went full time Army. He luved it.
Guess these guys knows whose King of the mountain, (tower).
I'm glad u wrote this cause I thought he was an artist painter and I see him as Superman!
A masterpeice and u certainly did it justice.

A fitting and talented tribute to someone worthy, your love. A wonderful informative description; but done so poetically. This poem also seems to depict a sense of freedom and adventure, much like your lifestyle

unusual indeed. i loved the ending. i was actually getting visuals of me trying to do the same, but all the visuals had frowns on my face, lol. i rather like the ground....more than the sky...
