This morning I wake up
I check in on little boy
Fumbling through the dark
I stub my toe on a toy
I creep into his room
He’s cuddled up on the bed
With his eyes closed tight
As if they were full of lead
With his puppy by his side
Just a little to his right
I could see his beautiful face
As the blinds gave a little light
He looked peaceful in a dream
Off in some wonderful, mysterious land
And He was soaking it all in
As only a child can

I sat down in a near by chair
Just to spend some quiet time
To reflect on the memories
I’m so fortunate to call mine
Made me wonder what life was like
Before he was around
And the harder that I thought
No significant memories could be found
For he has become my entire life
My reason to start the day
And he’s done it without knowing
That he has affected me this way
My love for him is indescribable
Unconditional to say it best
I love to come here and reflect
As I watch his peaceful rest

Even though I am not a parent, as a big sister, I can identify with that. My brother will soon be twenty one & it seems like yesterday, I watched him learn to walk.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
