Array ( [sid] => 87834 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Shooting at the dark [time] => 2005-03-17 22:33:07 [hometext] => my poetry has alot of different meanings to each person that reads them so I will leave the meaning up to you. [bodytext] => Like soldiers going into battle
you prepare for the worst.
Will they carry you on a throne
or carry you in a hurse?

You put on your bullet-proof vest
and wait for the impending force,
knowing you will be safe
but also that it will hurt like hell.

Stinging, ratteling you to the core
knocking you down
but you get up for more

Testing it’s strength
hoping you put it on right

Fighting in the dark
while your mind plays tricks on you,
playing with your eyes and
telling you what to do.

Taking another drink from your liquor
you smuggled in,
trying to numb yourself
for what might be coming around the bend

Moving ever so slowly like a snail in the summer
putting your rifle to your shoulder
trying to find it in your sights
What are you looking for?

You will know when you see it,
you will have one chance...
to make the kill shot,
to put it in its place,
to leave for the bugs and animals to taste.

Thoughts running rampant
as you lay here and wait.
Trying to calm down
feeling the sweat drip down your face.
Knowing that this is definitely
the time and place.

Do you see it? It sees you
Can smell your fear, even taste it,
yes the end is near
Pull the trigger, what are you waiting for?

Waking up days later,
wondering what happened
Trying to get up, but it hurts so bad,
trying to make sense of what happened in the past

Thinking back you know you did it
you pulled the trigger and felt the impact
Figuring out all the pieces,
things coming back in a flood.
You touch your forehead
and feel nothing but wetness
you look and see blood

Ahhhh yes,
I remember it now
it wasn’t a forest or jungle we were in.
Yes it was dark,
it was a place you wish you could forget.

Your mind will do that sometimes
when you wish you were dead.
It wasn’t a scope you were looking through
all along you were looking........
at you

This was dark, but undeniably well-expressed and rather vivid. Well done, and welcome to YPDC.
