Array ( [sid] => 8748 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => She'll Never Understand. [time] => 2002-12-17 11:40:00 [hometext] => Sometimes I feel that my mother doesn't approve, or even understand my relationship because it is with a guy that I know on internet that is from a very different culture. After 2 years, she still makes little comments that hurt the way she says them. I sort of expressed it in this poem, but I must admit, I took some poetic liberties. [bodytext] => She’ll never understand,
when she comes to know,
how serious we are,
and how I love you so.

But it doesn’t matter,
the choice isn’t hers,
the choice is solely our,
mine and my dear sir’s.

She may pass remarks,
might just not act so nice,
and honey you’ll see why,
I don’t ask for her advice.

Honey, please don’t worry,
we’ll live far away,
and we will only see her,
the week of Christmas day. [comments] => 5 [counter] => 224 [topic] => 33 [informant] => Jessica_Saini [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SecretLove )

She may not approve or understand your relationship, but then again she doesn't have to understand it...you only have one mother...one which i would hope the lines of communication are open with between you and her...i really feel if you sat down with her and had a very long talk about how you feel for this person she might come to understand it better and perhaps you could understand how she feels about it as well....but she is the only mom you have and time with her should be cherished, because she won't be around forever...i really enjoyed reading this poem and i hope everything works out for you and your love....beleive in yourself and what you can do in life to make things better for you and you'll go far...

It is a self perpetuating cycle that causes each generation to distrust the abilities of their progeny. When new things come out so quickly that it is blinding, people tend to cling to their beliefs and what you might call conceptualized safety. The internet developed and, contrary to the belief of a number of people, did not sweep everybody into the hurricane it spawned. Those who were left behind, the majority of which consist of people over 40, though I intend no stereotyping, grew more dependent upon their tried and true methods of performing tasks and whatnot. Uncertainty is often the successor to a misunderstanding or a self-created disapproval of a particular thing, in this case your mother and your internet dating. It has always seemed to me that, if it becomes important, they will understand. If not, all you can ask of them is to trust you.

Well, ignore that reply to the other comment.. I jacked it up. The contents of it, however, are contained below.

I know that my mother loves me, and I am grateful for all she has done for me. But, she never seems to trust or approve of my decisions, be they my choice of friends in high school or my choice of contacts on internet. I had thought that by telling mother some things about my boyfriend a little at a time, she might gradually warm up to him... That doesn't seem to be the case. She isn't very open-minded when it comes to him and his culture. And sometimes she makes little comments that hurt because of the way she says them. For example, if I'm online, she'll ask "are you chatting with Karan?" but in a tone of voice that makes me feel bad.
I don't know why I'm telling the world about this...
