Now I gave you life…I gave you freedom of choice,
And to me in praise… you thankfully lifted your voice,
But temptation came along… and tragically overthrew ya.
You soon found out… the real meaning of shame,
Your garden now… a place filled with pain,
And from your saddened hearts…I heard no hallelujah.

I gave you commands…which you chose to break,
You learned of sin…and of how hate…a life can take,
Oh Abel…in sin your own brother came along and slew ya.
Oh how I cried as I watched mankind’s decline unfold,
His beautifully pure heart…to sin had been sold,
For so long…from his lips I heard no hallelujah.

Yet from my grace and compassion I chose to forgive,
Despite his failures…my creation will yet live,
You flee in fear…but my love will always pursue ya.
I have devised a plan…where forgiveness will reign,
A home I will build for all...free from shame,
Then perhaps you will once again… sing a joyful hallelujah.

My very own Son…to you I will send,
On His word and His teaching you can always depend,
He will defeat sin and death…and all that tragically overthrew ya.
For your very sin…he will have to suffer and die,
Of our love for you… does this not testify?
Your hearts will not be able to resist…in tear-filled hallelujah.

From the beginning…for my people I did always care,
A future we have together…and all believers will share.
From my lips you’ll not hear the words…away from me I never knew ya.
For your sin…Jesus has paid your debt…you now understand,
Before me in purity…as I had always planned,
From your lips in love…will pour many an hallelujah.

Jesus died…so that you all could live,
Despite your failures…He will always forgive,
For the crushed and broken…He is always there to soothe ya.
There is no more reason to be afraid of death,
For to Him you will go as you draw your last breath,
And as you travel you will be singing to Him…oh hallelujah.
