Array ( [sid] => 87288 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Please Dont Turn Your Back On This [time] => 2005-03-12 19:37:15 [hometext] => Hello, i'd like to ask the people on this site to do me a favour and read this poem. Something terrible is happening and the media seems to be doing its best to pretend it isnt. Id really appreciate it if you had a look. Thank you. [bodytext] => Congo:
The sun sets a giant ball of flame
Another night in this land of utter shame
The sky may be red but the land makes it pale
Blood stains the land
There is blood on all our hands.

Four million people butchered in five years
Four million
Imagine that number
I read those words found it hard to comprehend
How far they had let themselves descend.
Four million people in just five years
I felt their anger and pain
I felt my shame for not knowing
In that dry dusty land there is an ocean of tears.

I read of women so terribly abused
Tens of thousands of them
And nothing is done.
Terror rules supreme there
With the harsh law of the gun.
Something has to be done.

Elsewhere.....
We run around in our own little worlds
Focus on all our own little problems that cause us grief
We watch tv news and see what they want us to see
But what really goes on defies belief.
Our leaders blow up people on our behalf
This so called "War On Terror" is a joke
Perhaps if the Congo was more oil-rich
It wouldnt be going to hell in a cloud of blood filled smoke.

Thats all, i know its not a great poem but if it is even enough for 1 person to read 1 of the links below then its served its purpose. Whats happening over there is truly horrific and more people should know about it. It should not be swept under the international carpet and forgotten about.

While I can certainly understand your feeling of grief when it comes to another global injustice; what about the other fourth world nations that are screwed up? I don't think anything will be done, but I enjoyed the writing. Keep at it!

Nice use of the words (i.e. In that dry dusty land there is an ocean of tears), but i'm a supporter of the war and of our President so.....yeah..... i'll leave it at that, decent write though.

Good write, although I find it hard to image any write can picture the atrocities that these monsters are doing in the Congo. I find it hard to comprehend how humans can be so incredibly cruel and dead of all compassion and just the natural feelings to help one another. Films like Star Trek for example always try to show the uniqueness of being A Human Being how superior, we are from all living creatures, so we like to think. After reading and seeing what is being done in this country (and I’m sure in others) I wouldn’t even insult the animals by calling these so called “humans” after them.
Thank you for bring this to our attention. May God be with them and with us all.

Very good write. A subject yes that seems to be ignored here. I believe as you if the Congo was full of oil, the good ole' USA would be there. And yes sadly atrocities go on every day everywhere. I will never understand how some folks can be so cruel. Much peace to you.
