Take me from my pain into my death,
For you are the only one just to take a life,
But you do not take without giving.

There is no death without a new life beginning.
There is no tree cut down without a new one being planted.
There is no story ending without a new story beginning.

But, Lord, end my life and do not begin another.
Cut down my tree and do not plant another.
End my story and do not start another.

Do not let another see the horrific things that I have seen.
Do not let another hear the terrible things that I have heard,
And do not let them feel the pain that I have felt.

But, Lord, if there must be another life,
Let them see the wonderful things that I have seen.
Let them hear the beautiful sounds that I have heard.
Let them feel the love that I have felt.

Oh, forgive me, Lord! Do not end my life!
Do not cut down my tree!
Do not end my story!

A Prayer for Death and Life

Oh, Lord, take me,
Take me from my pain into my death,
For you are the only one just to take a life,
But you do not take without giving.

There is no death without a new life beginning.
There is no tree cut down without a new one being planted.
There is no story ending without a new story beginning.

But, Lord, end my life and do not begin another.
Cut down my tree and do not plant another.
End my story and do not start another.

Do not let another see the horrific things that I have seen.
