When I close my eyes
I'm overcome with want
To make the memories
And wishes come true
And finally relive again

When I close my eyes
The notes of the piano
Fade into misery
Of what will never be
But discord and nothing
That doesn't mean anything

When I open my eyes
I see what is reality
And it is nothing
That I wanted it to be
It's like it was yesterday

And the piano plays
The notes filled with pain
And the measures are the same
With only silence at the end of each refrain

Until the strings are rusted with hate
And I close my eyes for another day [comments] => 8 [counter] => 159 [topic] => 48 [informant] => essentially9 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

Rusted With Hate

And the measures are the same
With only silence at the end of each refrain

Until the strings are rusted with hate
And I close my eyes for another day

This piece just seems to drip with despair and futility, yet maybe its the optamist in me but somehow in the first stanza buried under all that want, do I detect the faintest echo of hope?
