Burning skin, and bloodshot eyes,
knock on the door, the razor she hides.
Big ol' smile, what a disguise,
she'll never stop til' she dies.
--------
because
--------

She was first in her class,
but the pressure was on.
Didn't know what in life,
she wanted to become.

So she started on weed...
and making her happy- it did succeed.
Her fears grew larger,
so she started sleeping around.

Before she knew it-
she was with the wrong crowd,
going around asking
random people for drugs

-and she cries to herself.

She calls old friends,
but uses them
A warped mind-
beaten-
brainwashed by her boyfriend.

Doing heroine shots,
gigantic on her arms.

She was such a close,
friend.
Before- all this went on.

An overachiever,
you'd be alarmed.
She was so smart-
so beautiful.

But I don't
know who--
she is anymore.

Stealing from me,
I wish she'd free
herself from the hell,
she's locked herself in.

But I have... to wash
my hands of her.

It's all up to her now,
to decide whether or not,
she wants to live again.

But the girl I knew
is gone right now,
somewhere drifting away.

Who is that figure standing
in front of me?

An addiction.

shes gone,
until,
she decides...
that all these drugs,
are just ruining her life...

I miss her.

What a gripping poem for me to read, I went through the same thing with my very best friend. We were best friends from the moment we met at 12 years old, and now we're 25...I still see her sometimes but she is always a mess. I can't help her anymore after all the years I tried. Thanks for sharing this poem. Tiffany J.

excellent! i'm going through that one right now. it's very painful i know but you just have to bear with her and try to advise her on what she's doing. it'll pay off in the end trust me.
