Array ( [sid] => 85617 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => I Died For Love [time] => 2005-02-24 18:59:54 [hometext] => I've been told that this poem is the best that some have ever read, even though it's long, so bear with me on the length. :) [bodytext] => On a warm summer night, You say you love me.
My hand is in yours, But where are we?
The street is dark, Its warmth is just right.
We’re taking our walk, Like we do every night.

Your lips part to smile, And I smile too.
A big hug is given, For me, from you.
Over your shoulder, A figure I see.
Is he running at you? Or is he running at me?

He pulls you away, And then hits your face.
A few more are coming, At a sprinting pace.
I reach out for you, But I’m grabbed where I stand.
My arms are too short, To reach for your hand.

They force me to watch, As they hit you some more.
I’ve seen all these boys, In my nightmares before.
You know all their names, And they know you too.
Are they from your past? Who are they to you?

There’s yelling and anger. “Please, leave him alone!”
But they yell in my face, With a brutal tone.
He's really ***** off, Mostly at you.
But why is he looking At me like that too?

His eyes are like headlights; Evil and cold.
My efforts are futile, To loosen his hold.
I’m slapped on the face. What the hell did I do?
I’m fighting for life, And I’m fighting for you.

One boy has a knife, He’s kind of tall.
He swings and hits me, I don’t feel myself fall.
The next thing I know, I’m flat on the ground.
There’s a few dozen figures, Standing around.

I’m right by your feet. You see me, and cry.
While they’re yelling, I whisper, “Are we going to die?”
You can’t understand me, And it hurts to think.
My ribs are broken, It even hurts to blink.

There’s a puddle of tears, Beneath my face.
No, I think it’s my blood. It's all over the place.
I lift myself up, With the strength I have left.
He says something to you, About robbery or theft.

Did you steal from them? Is that why they’re here?
I don’t care, I forgive you. Just get me out of here.
They're ignoring my tears, They're ignoring my plea.
What does all of this, Got to do with me?

They laugh at the tears, That fall from your eyes,
What could possibly be funny, When a Former Gangster cries?
You look real beat up, Your body is a mess.
He finally lets us go, And leaves with the rest.

I’m still standing, As they vanish in the night.
And Baby, from the looks of you, It was a terrible fight.
Pain shoots through my legs, And I feel weak.
Only Blood comes out, When I try to speak.

I fall to the ground, There’s no way I’ll get up.
I can’t feel my body, 'Cause my muscles gave up.
You’re with me now; My face in your hands.
The ground is so cold, And scratchy with sand.

There’s a mixture of anger, And tears in your eyes.
You keep saying you’re sorry, Baby, please don't cry.
I’m lifted to my knees, So you can hug me for life.
Behind you, my blood, Decorates a large knife.

There’s marks on my body From where I was grabbed.
I did not even realize, That I had been stabbed.
Now I’m beginning, To feel the deep pain.
I can’t tell what you’re saying, 'Cause it’s starting to rain.

A drop hits my face, From the sky up above.
I’m not dying for them, I’m dying for love.
Sound gets blurry, Sight does too.
I wish I had the strength, To kiss and hug you.

Blood fills my eyes, And I see red.
You know that I love you, Don’t forget what I said.
All of this gets harder, For me to believe.
These are our last moments, And I can’t even breathe.

You say, “Don’t be scared.” I tell you I’m not;
That as long as you’re breathing, Then I got what I want.
My heart hates crying, But my eyes still sob.
As long as I changed you, Then I did my job.

I need you to promise, You won’t hate your ex-gang.
Because hate is what started, This entire thing.
I can tell that you love me, 'Cause I’ve never seen you cry.
I might leave you tonight, But in your heart, I’ll never die.

And when you go to Church, Pray for me as if I’m there.
I know I’ll get your message, If you talk to me through prayer.
So much I wanna tell you. So much I wanna say.
But I don’t get the chance, The end comes anyway.

Right before death, I sit up in my bed.
It’s really hot, And my eyes are beat red.
That couldn't be real, It was way too intense.
Could that happen to us? It made no sense.

Those scenes make me cry, They’re still in my head.
I tighten the grip, That I have on my bed.
I’ll pray that it’s fake, That’s all I can do.
In the end, I’m just glad, That I died and not you. I really, really liked this poem! It didn't seem that long because it was so good and that it made me want to keep reading. some poems just keep rambling on about something when they are that long, but yours didn't it was really good and brought tears to my eyes. keep writing these kind of excellent poems!

welcome to YPDC, your always a friend and family member here, so please do enjoy yourself.

truly this is a sad, but beautiful poem it shows a deep concer for the one you love and that in itself is wounderful but puting it in to words is astounding, not many can do it congratulations, yes it was a bit long but to make it shorter would be to loss what it came out to be. your decreption of the events in this was great, the flow was steady enough. you kept my intrest from start to finish the twist at the end was nice added a kindness to it that was heart warming. but I do hope that your other works will be not so long, but if they need to be then so be it.

I did truly like this one. yet dieign for love is nerve a beautiful thing, this was a good depiction of the thoughts and desires of the moment, good job, you have a woulderfull talent and a gift for writing. please do post again soon. be strong and God bless.

Not one word is boring and it's so touching.
it's really a mazing.
It really says what true luv is about or at least what I know of true luv.
I'm sure she is humbled by this and very gratefull.
her luv for you will last an eternity.
to know that Jesus died for all is great but for a women to know the man she luved died for her is unspeakably touching.
How can a women hate another after such a dedicated write?

No need to apologise for the length of this, because it was worth reading every line.

Your story held my interest from the first line to the last. I enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing it.

Wow...You know, I am simply speechless. How can a poet have the talent to write something THAT crazy. THAT perfect. How can a poet fit a story like that into words so descriptive and sad, but at the same time just utterly perfect. I loved your story, every line. Every letter. With your permission, I'd like to print it out and show it to my friends at school because this is the kind of poem that the whole world should read. For it secretly teaches a lesson of love, and our world needs love.
Gosh, I really cannot get over how good that was. Thank you soooo much for sharing that with us, you have a brilliant talent, and this poem just won my attention and determination to read the rest of your work. If this poem blew me away, I cant wait to read more. You truly are amazing. It's not every day, you meet a young teenager that knows so much about love.
It appears that people who've commented aren't sure if you are a male or female, and I thought you were a girl, so if I am right, then the guy in the poem is extremely lucky to have a girl like you. You already seem like a celebrity to me.
