Through thick and thin
We’ve had our problems
Where to begin

At first there was drinking
At home or at the bar
He tried to hide it
But he didn’t get far

He promised to quit
And we believed him
Now he is sick
His life slowly gets dim

During the drinking
He got really sad
His best friend past away
And so did his dad

The fighting began
Went on for years
There was a lot of yelling
And plenty of tears

He stopped with the drinking
Then he found something out
He had something bad
We knew nothing about

He has a disease
He is really sick you see
There’s nothing he can do
We found out, it’s Hepitis C

He got real depressed
He found something new
He turned to coke
His friends grew to just a few

He used all our money
Sat back and thought
He needed to quit
And threw away what he bought

He went for help
Came home the same
Said he could do it
He would take all the blame

He wrecked the car
One night messed up
He pushed my mom down
She got fed up

He went to jail
Was there for some time
Thought about what he did
Realized his crime

I wrote him a lot
He is my dad of course
He wrote me back
Begged for remorse

He came home
Sober and clean
Much happier
And no longer mean

He lives his life
Day by day
With all our love
I know we will find a way

Beautiful write. I read those lines you penned growing more proud of the honesty and clear view you gave to the words. It was both touching and heart warming. I am so glad he has you. Stay strong LOVE finds a way. :-)
