And it's filled with sadness for what I've lost
I had what I thought I never could
I had a love but at such a heavy cost

The hurt he brought me was so great
And so deep and painful is the scar
Yet I can't quiet the love that's left
And the memory of "what was" is never far

I saw him today for a little while
He looked so intensely in my eyes
As he walked me back to my car
He said four words to both our surprise

"We'll have our day" he whispered
Almost as quietly he quickly took it back
Why does he say those words to me
It hits me like a brick and throws me off track

I still have so much love here for him
And in his eyes it seems he does for me
Why then are we living separate lives
Why is this the way it has to be

This is an excellent write. Some loves long outlast their welcome. Hmmm, maybe there's a poem there. I like your name and your style.

Excellent poem!! I can relate, and I'm sure there are so many other people who can too. Things get easier with time, and I wish you both the best, whether it's together again or separate :-)
