Of Inquiry
And freedom of the thought
And freedom to express one's mind,
Humbly and courageously in matters
In which competence is enjoyed,
Is a God-given right,-
Defer to this
FREEDOM !

Free Speech
Is permitted,
Esteem and uphold it!
This right of the First Amendment,
A right guaranteed every citizen,
To be resorted to firmly,
To verbalize conscience,
A Blessing is
Free Speech!

Free Speech
Use it rightly!
The tongue is intended
To spread blessings to the many,
And not to destroy a reputation,
And bury a neighbor thereby,-
So awesome is freedom
And the right to
Free Speech!

Amen! It's terrible what's being done in America to the freedoms we once enjoyed. Thank you for standing up for the truth.

Bless you Elizabeth for your “Truth in words” reminder that all our freedoms have the expectance of their usage to be understood that there is NO freedom of any kind possible, without sacrificing another freedom in order to participate in the one in use at any given moment. Civility, and good common sense is the lowest threshold possible for our rights to remain protected. Sadly, there are those who want something for nothing. Everything we do that’s worth doing must be done within a framework of rules, and responsibilities. There must be penalties for those who misuse, abuse, or otherwise take liberties which could force us all to lose our precious freedoms, or cause them to be diluted into worthless words. This doesn’t seem to be taught to the student world anymore. Pray that we can, collectively, overcome the rising threat and it will pass without the destruction of the greatness our forefathers left to us for safekeeping. Wonderful write. Thank you. Bravo! This is deeply true, and very well said.

It is sad that so many people misunderstand and misuse free speech to the extent that they do. Free speech is a terrible, destructive thing, unless the people be good enough and moral enough to use it rightly. I hear a lot of talk about how wonderful diversity of thought and expression are - some people really revel when they see it in action... but often the things they revel at and point to as signs of how healthy our society is, are in fact ideas from opposite ends of the spectrum fighting each other in a way that causes a lot of strife for a lot of people. Why exactly is so much argument considered ideal? It makes for a divided, loud and unpleasant society, in truth.

I suppose it all relates to pride and selfishness. People use so much of their free speech to pursue completely selfish ends, or defend selfish ideas of dignity.

Without selflessness, society is diseased. If more of us do not do more for others and less for ourselves, this country will continue falling, and free speech will only become more an offense to wisdom than it already is.

Well, I rambled. Thanks much for the opportunity, and for saying something that desperately needs to be understood.

Ad majorem Dei gloriam.

Andrew
