[bodytext] => It's not there, but I see it still The twin steeples reaching up I remember that day Remember it well Sugar bag lunches of peanutbutter and jelly Trading Oreos for a Fig Neuten Sisters with crosses hanging on their bellies Long brown tables and paper wads setting across from you Looking at your curly locks Later on the cement play ground Chewing Fleers and Double Bubble blowing bubbles huge and round setting down Giggles and a gummy face Baseball cards of Williams and Baby who A ribbon in your hair a pretty lace Seventh graders are too young Unable to understand feelings of love Skiprope tag and chewing gum Ringlets bouncing in the air Rosy red cheeks Lips still bare The main altar with it's twin spirals Grade schoolers walking to church from the school Sisters warning No one smile Front row pews reserved for seventh graders Still out front a dark black hearse Bubble gum love doesn't matter One is gone the other shattered Sisters sternly saying no chatter A choir sings How Great Thou Art The priest at the center of the aisle They wheel you in upon a cart They open the lid while blocking everyones' view they preen and pamper you with tender care I sit and stare with a bubble gum heart Disbelief Rebecca you weren't sick that long I want to die Please The Father spoke Held high the Host Couldn't breathe I felt so choked Sister started at the first pew Come children receive communion Then pass Rebecca's coffin for a view Communion didn't mean a thing Baseball cards and bubble gum How can a dead heart sting I looked and saw her breathe Ringlets and a ribbon in her hair I cried in my disbelief Here I am in my sixties now Thinking back, but sadness is here My heart still cries how Baseball cards Seventh graders don't know love I think of you Rebecca in bubble gum love Sinned [comments] => 1 [counter] => 155 [topic] => 55 [informant] => sinned [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => dedicatedpoems )
