We were sittin’
In a rest’rant
After dinner
Over coffee
When she told me
Of a poem
She had written
Just today

And the words fell
Down like honey
As she whispered
`Cross the table
And I thought that
I could love her
That’s when I heard
Myself say

Did I say that out loud
Was it just in my head
Can they be taken back
If you don’t hear them said
When they fall on deaf ears
Do they still make a sound
Do the words even count
Did I say that out loud

We were standing
At the altar
And the preacher
He was speaking
Words of wisdom
And devotion
And of never
Ending love

Now I so hate
To admit it
But I made him
Ask me twice if
I would take her
As my wife, `cuz
I was thinking
I should run

Did I say that out loud
Was it just in my head
Can they be taken back
If you don’t hear them said
When they fall on deaf ears
Do they still make a sound
Do the words even count
Did I say that out loud

I spoke the words
And slipped the ring
On her finger
Before I knew
I heard a soft
And quiet voice
Slowly saying
Yes I do

And I said that out loud
It wasn’t just in my head
And I can’t take it back
Because God heard it said
And I swore I’d be with her
`Least until she was dead
Did that come from my mouth
Did I say that out loud

Did I say that out loud
Was it just in my head
Can they be taken back
If you don’t hear them said
When they fall on deaf ears
Do they still make a sound
Do the words even count
Did I say that out loud

I thought the first two stanzas were the best.

We were sittin’
In a rest’rant
After dinner
Over coffee
When she told me
Of a poem
She had written
Just today

I liked the "rest' rant" part. I thought it was clever because it shows how restraunts are places where we meet with our friends and rant. Coffee and cigerrettes.....nothing beats it.

And the words fell
Down like honey
As she whispered
`Cross the table
And I thought that
I could love her
That’s when I heard
Myself say

I thought this part flowed very nicely. For some reason, the "And I thought that I could love her" part really struck me. It was as if, when I was reading it, I could see your mind work in that particular moment. It felt alive like it was happening now. I don't know if I'm making sense, but it just came across like it was supposed to be said there....perfectly placed.

Good story telling in this poem.

Be True,
zenmind

Naz, I really liked it....excellant lyrics. Interestingly, I never read the words; but from the beginning I sang them, and was aware of a rhythum and cadence of my own.

Great job

This is a great song. The opening is really rather beautiful, at least to me (as one who wouldn't mind being the singer one bit), and it's carried through. Bravo!

well I have heard you time and time again say these words to me and I have to respond, YES YOU DID!!! Sometimes those words are needed to be said and other times I wish you had never said them to where I could hear. But I will tell you this Nazy don't you ever forget you are a great person and I will always be around for you even if you do say some things outload
