St. Valentine - young lovers' joyous fest!
But grief for me, my cherished husband left,
A time when birds are busy in their nest,
My nest stands empty and I stand bereft.

We had a bird house, - Stephen crafted it,
With his own hands, - a little Swiss Chalet,
And countless birds would come in search of seed,
Oh memories, so precious, but so sad.

With industry and care he built the roof,
The walls, with little twigs Swiss/Austrian style,
So busily he worked with zeal and love,-
The chalet's floor he laid out with blue tile.

The birdhouse swung on our clothes line,-
They came in swarms, - the loveliest little birds,
As launching pad they used an ancient pine,
Who seems so lifeless now,- to see it hurts!. -

The dainty Swiss Chalet built by my love,
That brought to both us delight and joy,
Is gone, - it's gone, - I brutally ripped off-
The art work of my darling Stephie boy.

I loathed to see it swinging in the breeze,
The very sight of it I could not bear,
And so I bought no longer seeds wherewith
To feed the precious creatures of the air.

No red breasts and no sparrows any more,
No picking seeds , nor tweets that gave delight,
My love has landed on another shore,-
In realms and in regions infinite.

The bird house is no more- - no more, - it’s gone,-
It’s getting spring, but withered seems our vine,
And I wake up to darkly--fingered-dawn,
To wish my friends a happy Valentine.
