There are no sounds around to exempt him from his dismal thoughts. All he feels is sorrow for his actions, and wishes nothing more than to concede them. All there is is regret in his soul.

He recollects to a time of bliss, when there were no worries. He sees the people dancing in great halls, the women in their flowing gowns of brilliant gold and silver, the men in obsidian black tuxedos. Before death, before war.

Nothing could have readied them for what was to come. Nothing could have readied them for a war that would end all wars… End all humanity. The concealed threat was upon them. It was always there, but no one saw it. This enemy was one of unbounded proportions.

When this menace struck, there was no warning. It hit swiftly and with immeasurable power. There was no way to stop it. An incorporeal army, raised only to kill, swept the land like a whirlwind. Nothing could survive. Only their lord and master was untouched. Now he wonders alone. Alone forever.

Welcome to YPDC. Your first write has certainly made an impression on this reader. Not sure it fits the standard poetry format, but it is intriguing, thought provoking, and well...just stunning. Nice stuff.
