Left wondering.
I should have known.
I should have been prepared.
But the trap was set
And the bait well-placed.
My footing was loose and
I became captive once again.
For a while I escaped
Your dungeon and
Ran through the hills
Ecstatic and thankful
I was finally free from your binding ties.
You needed me
Because I didn’t need you.
Plain and simple.
You fell into my trap.
That was revenge enough for me.
But somehow I cracked.
Slowly I fell back in.
Somehow you got to me
And I am a captive fool
Once again.
I look around but
You are nowhere to be found.
I am alone and so sad
And you still don’t care.
I am your prisoner
Trapped behind bars
And you don’t even know it.
For a second in this fast-paced existence
I thought you finally saw me.
I thought maybe you realized
Who I am and wanted to know more of me.
I thought I finally saw you,
But alas – it was just an illusion.
A figment of my imagination.
Wishful thinking.
There is hope of escape from this hell.
Only time will unlock the metal door
That holds me to this dreary place.
And self-worth is the key
To my freedom.
I will no longer be left wondering
Because I will have moved on.
I will no longer know your name.
What a joyous day that will be.

Powerful stuff, conjurs many emotions, well written. i can relate to the covert power struggle in a relationship, the question under the surface of who needs the other peron more. I i reading into it right, or am i on the wrong track?
