I was slumbering in bed , the covers up tight,
I awoke to hear a scratching sound,
Where is it coming from, I looked around,
But seeing nothing, I layed back down,
Then, again, I heard this sound,
I was eager to find out what it was
So I looked out my window and there it was,
Deer on our driveway from the wood,
All with antlers, and one stood
And on it's nose a color of red,
I thought it looked like blood instead.
Maybe it scraped it's nose somewhere,
It looks so red on that deer down there.
Then I heard another sound,
It was up above, or was it down,
To my surprise, it's on the roof,
Oh, come on, it's just a spoof.
But then, again, I heard it clear,
It wasn't far, but it was near.
I opened the window without a sound
And coated up, I got a bound
Of courage, oh, what a feat,
To find out what this sound is; NEAT!
I climbed up to the roof and, lo,
There was Santa, HO!HO!HO!
At the chimney, there he stood
With his pack so rich and good.
He turned to see me coming, froze,
And put his finger to his nose
And boosting himself up quite comlete
He went down the chimney with his feet.
And when I got to the chimney there,
A frantic sight, I do declare,
For Santa got stuck, oh, what a fright,
It's Christmas Eve, no help in sight!
Then, behold, I heard a sound
From the sky, around, around,
As it drew near, what did it say,
AFLAC, the duck did say.
I tried to lean down with my hand
Outstretched toward Santa, but, my land,
I couldn't reach him, what to do,
Take a rope in hand with you
The duck did say, so down I went
To find a rope, the time well spent,
And when I found it, here I go,
Up upon the roof aglow,
When I reached the chimney there
I leaned down, but then, beware,
I too, fell in, oh, woe are we,
Santa dear and little old me.
The duck looked down at us, wide eyed,
What are you doing there, he cried.
I threw the rope, twas in my hand
To this duck, it fell, my land.
I tried again, and the rope it caught
And with a pull it tugged and fought.
Could this bird pull us both out?
Must have faith, without a doubt.
Finally we made it, just in time,
But who would believe it, reason or rhyme?
Christmas was spared, alas, this year,
As Santa left, I shed a tear,
For it was a joy up here
To see Saint Nick and rescue, he,
Then with a sound, so merrily,
He hitched his sleigh and did reply
As they went across the sky,
Thank you, sir. And from the height,
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

A Christmas Surprise
