Are tired of livin' an' dien',
Laughin' an' cryin',
In the same old way.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

They're in a rage.
It's all a game,
They're forced to play.
All the lovin'.
All the pain.
All the givin'.
All the takin'.
An' what do they gain?

Nowhere left to go,
To get away.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

Like animals in a cage,
They're locked away,
Without any say.

Tryin' to stay sane,
Standin' naked in the rain.
Runnin' hard,
Against the grain.
Turnin' the page,
Another day.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

Who am I?
Who are you?

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

What are we,
Supposed to do?
Live our lives,
The way we're told to?

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

Are we to,
Pour ourselves into,
The mold of the chosen few?
Or to ourselves be true.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

No way!
Not today!
I have to be,
Me!
I have to be,
Free!

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

I can't go away.
So here I stay.
Survivin',
Day by day.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

Survivors of the past.
Part of the mystery.
Once part of the cast.
They had a hand,
In shaping history.
But now their time,
Has come an' passed.
An' now we're left stranded,
Bound to the mast.
Life goes by,
Much too fast.
Quick as a missile,
An' a nuclear blast.
Beds made.
Bets played.
Chips cashed.
Leavin' behind,
A world so used,
An' abused,
It'll never last.
Everything left over,
Spoiled an' thrashed,
The right questions,
Never asked.
The truth of the problems,
Hidden an' masked.
Thrown away like garbage,
Our world is trashed.
Jail cell,
Straight to hell.
Either way,
We're skipping bail.
Out to get ,
What we want,
Any way we choose.
Runnin' loose,
From the noose.
Broke the yoke.
Ain't no joke.
Unleashed from the collar,
That was around our necks.
Everything,
Up in smoke.
To the last dollar.
What more did you expect?
Hell's to pay.
An' the check's been sent.
No future plans,
For tomorrow.
We're livin' it up for today,
'Cause the 'morrows rent,
Has already been spent.

How an' why?
Must I die?

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

What do you,
Believe in?
When you believe,
It's all a lie.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

What if life,
Only makes you sad an' cry?

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

Why can't I,
Give up?
If I don't wanna try.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

What else is there,
To be given?
If you don't wanna fly.

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

For whose power?
For whose glory?

Statues of clay.
Statues of clay.

For a harp.
An' a pair of wings.

So goes the story.

Statues of clay.

We're all just,

Statues of clay. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 156 [topic] => 13 [informant] => Alexander_McDonald [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )
