From a town called Mannheim
She lived and worked in Africa
Doing God’s work among the poor

I meet her in Arizona at a church
In Mesa called St. Tim’s Catholic Community
She was our Sister working to feed the hungry
Provide for the homeless at a place we called Paz De Cristo

Sister Gemma with a ready smile and a warm hug for us all
She taught us by example about giving and loving
Working with those less fortunate
She has the heart of Christ’s mother full of love for all

A woman with a prayerful heart and a grateful one too
She loved the children from the Academy
Sister Gemma knew us all by name
She is missed now that she has been called back to Africa

Our family grew to love her
She showed us how to live
She is more than just Sister Gemma from Germany
Somehow she is like an older sister that I never had

Where ever the Lord calls you Sister Gemma
I know you never far away
All I have to do is look in my heart to see you
Seeing you praying over us

We love you Sister Gemma
You are missed so very much
Just know that as I think of you
I will pray for you because that is what brothers do

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
