today I grab my pen and then somehow...
I face the demons in my heart and head.
I drank too much and so, booze had to go...
before I hurt myself and others, too;
came very close to ending all I know...
today I write and live a life that’s true.
I pay no mind to people’s trite concerns;
I have no plans to ebb the writing tide;
as long as my addiction breaths and burns...
my poetry must prosper and abide.
If I write all the day, I think its cool;
I’d rather be a poet than a fool.

Bravo... good for you. many don't make it and just substitue addictions for 'other' addictions. Write and when you're finished writing, write some more.

welcome and thanks for sharing!

It's a good things you no longer drink, because I think you have a real talent for writing. I'd love to read more of your stuff. Good light-hearted twist on a somewhat dark subject.

Poets and drunks have more in common then I would have initially thought. Good writing here by the way. I suppose poets and lovers have often been discussed in the same line, such a cliché. Poets and drunks, that’s original! A poet that is a recovering drunk? Even better. It appears to me that all poets, drunks, and lovers are addicted to their own vices and see why one may substitute for the other (perhaps concurrently). Hmmmm, while I’m thinking about it, I need a drink.
