Her cloak a velvet obsidian
Something commited within the chambers of two hearts
And Calypso held their hand and introduced them to the flames
Emerging from the fire a Scarlet Letter upon her breast
And falling from Heaven a Pearl clad in red
Standing on the scaffold
And the stoic jailer
The confused face of the innocent maiden
The men beholding her in a steady, emphatic gaze
Directing their piercing eyes
Each one a dagger to tear her heart
The disgust lying upon the tongues of these dusty "Angels"
Spews forth with viscious abandonment
She holds her precious Pearl close
And yet it glitters
It shimmers in the sun
The "A" pinned upon her dress
Seared into her very spirit
The stone hard tongues of those "Angels" won't redeem her now
She will be strong in all that she has to endure
And resting in her eyes is a resonant voice
Quivering under God's Eye
His frame collapsing under the Devil's
A wound above his heart
And stars did scatter
And the moon did fall
And the candle was lit in red flame
Across the Night's broken wing their souls were beared for all to see
The Scarlet Letter in the sky
And they stood upon that scaffold
With their Pearl in deep scarlet
Wisdom flowing through her veins
The breath that sustains the two lovers
She in her shame
And he in his torture
He is the Angel in the dust
And she is the hand within his heart
His candle was lit in red blood
And his relief of confession finally stifled the flame
And she held his face within her hands
As the flame flickered and died
His own letter to fade upon his dying flesh
And on she went
Surrounded by the scattered stars
And rays left over by the moon
She died with wrinkles on her hands
And many hard years around her eyes
Together in death
In Heaven or Hell
Laid beside each other in the earth
A tombstone to serve them both
The Letter "A" carved into the stone
Out of the dust
