His twisted ankle hurts
But he forces himself to keep running
He hates the pain, but loves the pain
The pleasure of it all is stunning

A needle pokes a hole
And a knife leaves a gash
The flame burns the flesh
As his cigaret begins to ash

When he's caught up in the euphoria
He feels he can accomplish any feat
Run a thousand miles, or swim to distant isles
But he's still sitting in his seat

A painting can be beautiful
Perhaps the most beautiful thing you'll find
But so can a wound as deep as your sorrow
If you posses his state of mind
