screams of what stopped in places
so long ago,
finding loss in the crying
din.

Bones rubbed the wrong way from cold
winds begging at the door,
the cushion of forgiveness worn away
forgetting where it used to
belong.

Speak long distance even up close, feign
a smile, reverberate pretense
marking its over-glossed
cadence.

Shelved greeting cards sit silent with
dusty words as ink-less pens
no longer write of
requited love.

Waning strength begs finale, faded glory
days whisper what is too late to
catch,
while last night's vespers answers
to moving
on.
