Jeff Mihalyo "Tree Boats" oil on wood 2003

Set sail softly but surely,
Check the waves and the depth of water
Make sure your vessel is seaworthy,
This is not a time to falter.

Ride the swift currents where you find them,
Make landfall on the tide
And when the still waters becalm you,
Let your compass be your guide.

Treat obstacles as course corrections,
Let nothing deflect your quest
When the sea lies in all directions,
Embrace it as a test.

Draw sustenance from your supplies,
Heed the advice of older tars
And when dark night envelops the skies,
Take directions from the stars.

Batten down in storms and gales,
Air your rigging in the sun
When the winds are up, unfurl the sails,
And let the strong gusts drive you on.

'The potential of the average person is like a huge ocean unsailed,
a new continent unexplored, a world of possibilities waiting to be
released and channeled toward some great good.'

Quote attributed to Tracy Brian

'Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the
things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.'

Quote attributed to Mark Twain 1835-1910

*applauds*

Nice work, Spike! I failed to notice the category - but if this isn't under "inspirational" it darn well ought to be. Very well done - creative and meaningful both. And this:

Treat obstacles as course corrections

... well - there's just a boat load (*wink*) of wisdom there.

Off to air my rigging,
SNM

well ..sheesh Spike, ya coulda told me this 20 YEARS ago!!! lol

I know this is 2 years old, but I found it so beautifully
captivating and rapturous. The title was so serene and
drew me into this page immediately. The metaphor
is brilliantly laid out, my friend and filled with a wealth
of great advice. (Now to implement that ... hmmmm,
easier said than done.)

I should revisit this piece each January 1, just so I can
feel inspired to follow the dream again. Beautiful poem,
S, and meaningful quotes to ponder.

~Breezy
(thinking that picture shuttles a very calming presence ..)
