Very sharply fell short of being anywhere near that way
The sounds of little feet pattering in my direction
For awhile, I captured the children’s attention

Most the guys sleeping during the football game
After getting bored with conversations lame
Including the newest Hunter on his Uncle Nick’s chest
And Aaron his son, taking a well deserved rest

Everywhere I went, young Seth at my side
Wouldn’t let me out his sight, no matter what I tried
Becoming a mountain for him to climb
And choosing me as his partner in crime

Eventually, I would have to face questions about Amy
And why she wasn’t there to help devour the turkey
For what many said was the first time in awhile
I explained the whole deal, with a smile

As things grew quieter, I took a moment to look back
Seeing yet again, how my life has taken a totally new track
Remembering also that a more special date isn’t far away
As I silently rejoiced the fact that nearly a year now she’d stayed

I also had to wonder where the time had gone
As it truly doesn’t feel as if it has been that long
After my rest, it became time to put of the tree
But we didn’t have enough lights to cover it’s 9 feet

Sitting in the living room, halfway put together
I quietly wished for the greatest Christmas ever
As all the guests left, after an endless amount of time
I finally got a chance to sign online

Wondering what I would do while I waited
I decided to write, before my memory faded
Of the things that came and went my way
On this, my first happy turkey day
