I went to the city today to buy the last of the gifts I needed to get
It was a nice day it was warm and it had been snowing
Really was a perfect day for shopping
I went to the mall and spent all the money I had
Buying gifts and all the little things I needed to
It knew everything I had to buy and it was a lot of stuff
But every year I would get an extra gift just in case
I would also get a few gifts for the local Gift from an Angel Program
They would get gift from people and give them out to the orphanages
And also bought some food for the feed the homeless program
But I always kept that extra gift just in case you know
This year I got a bear that felt so warm when you hugged it
I guess I am still a kid at heart
Well after I left the mall and went to the parking lot
I out all the gifts away into the trunk of my car and the back seat
Even some in the front seat too
I could not fit the bag with the bear in with all the rest
That one I would have to carry on top of me with a few others
I was not ready to leave and did not have a place for it so
I put the ones I could on my seat and closed the door and locked it
So I kept the bear with me and went back to the mall
I wanted to go and get something warm to drink for the ride home
I looked into my wallet and only had enough for a few coffees and some gas
It was enough so I made my way through the parking lot
Half way there I a homeless girl who could not be more than 15 years old
She looked so pale and cold as if the sweater she had on was not keeping her warm
It really was not so cold out then but she was shivering so pale
There were some boys laughing at her that would not stop
She started to cry and her skin started to look like ice
And all of the sudden it started to snow and a blizzard started to form
I hear the girl scream out the words ITS NOT MY FAULT and she ran away
I decided to chase after her, she ran so very fast but I kept up
We ran for about ten minutes or so till she came into an allay with a dead end
When she saw I was still there catching my breath from the loss of moisture in my mouth
The snow was making the weather change into a dry cold very fast
I guess she thought I wanted to hurt her and she lifted her hands and this tone of snow
Just covered me whole but it was not enough to keep me down
So I shook it off and saw that she ran off again
So again I chased after her again till she ran and tripped on a rock that was on the ground
She fell down and I went to her quickly to see if she was ok
Even on the ground she was fighting me off till I calmed her down
And said that I was not going to hurt her
I stood up to help her she got on her knees and through her arms around me crying
I got down to my knees and held her; she must have been hurting so much
She would not let go of me I did not want her to but she felt so cold
When she stopped crying I asked he if she was ok and also asked her name
She told me that it was Maurine and showed me her knee
She had a pretty bad cut on it so I took out my mini fist aid kit
I told her that it might sting and cleaned it up with an alcohol towel
See I was a part time nurse and always had my kit on me
So after I cleaned it up I saw it was not so bad and put a band aid on it
I had asked her why she was out on the streets alone during winter
She told me a story that just made my heart ache
But really it was a very common tale
Her father had left her when she was very little
So little that she did not even remember his face
And when she was 9 her mother dies from pneumonia and other complications.
I asked her if she was hungry and if she wanted something warm to drink
She said yes and I heard her stomach rumble when she looked down
We both had a small laugh so then I asked her how she would feel if
I told her I had something in my bag and that it was for her
She was very silent so I opened up the bag and brought the bear out
I handed it to her and she automatically hugged it and said thank you
Then she gave me a great big hug and when we parted I told her to wait for me
Coz we were going to have a picnic right there at the park by the mall
And she smiled and said ok and that she would wait for me
So I ran off and went back to the mall and got some food you know
A few sandwiches and small salads and stuff I got about fifty bucks worth of
Food like little snacks and some more than a few sandwiches and warm coco
I had to put it all on my credit card even though I hate those things
So I got everything packed up nicely I even bought a basket to put it all in
With blankets and what not to lay on and keep warm
So I ran back to where I left her as fast as I could
***** I hate running but what the hell
When I got back the place she was there passed out bleeding form her nose
She still had the bear in her arms and so I pushed the basket back into my shoulder
Picked her up and noticed she was breathing but not responding
With her in my arms I rushed back to my car
With my key chain I opened the doors and the trunk of the car
I asked some people there to put all I had in the back seat in the front and
To put as much as they could in the trunk and they did
Luckily I did not have to leave anything behind and even had room for the basket
A lot of people were depending on those presents
I laid her down in the back seat and put a blanket over her to keep her warm
I got in the front and went to the hospital
I drove off for like fifteen minutes before I looked at the gas gage
It was almost on empty and I hoped it was enough to get there
By some miracle or what ever we got there on time
I picked her up again and she had stopped breathing but had not let go of the bear
So I ran inside the hospital screaming for some help
Some doctors and nurses came with one of those bed and I put her on it and they rushed her away
Two hours go by and a doctor comes and gets me to ask if she had insurance
And I told him that I would use mine to help her and he said it was fine
He then told me that I could see her in an hour that they are cleaning her up
But that she did want to see me and was ok she just kind of froze over from the cold
So after an hour I went to the room and she was there sleeping with the bear
So I got the stuff from the basket and prepared everything for the picnic
