Silently

Contributed by TaintedSoul on Friday, 17th December 2004 @ 07:49:51 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

Pretentious is the soul that begs
with a voice so loud. So, I stay
quiet and in the shadows.

Watching.
Waiting.
Hoping.

But most of all,
fearing.

Too humble?
Maybe.

Severely paranoid?
Unfortunately.

Depression takes its toll
on the spirit. It is like heavy
chains to weigh down one’s
heart. In the shadows I remain,
where light cuts like the sharpest
knife and love bleeds out
with each passing day.

I merely want to be me,
no one else, just who I am
dwelling within this scarred
vessel. Razor edged words
cut deep into this soul I call
my own.

But, in reality, it is not mine,
after all. I merely rent it.

I am tainted by rage and regret.
Poisoned my soul anger has,
along with what all this begets.

So I sit in the shadows,
quietly waiting.

… watching.
… hoping.
… crying.

In silence for I am too afraid to
step out of my shell and face
the searing light, in hopes to
repent for the sins I have committed.

I languish in my own personal Hell,
where brimstone permeates my sense
of smell. Let me bleed out here in the
shadows in hopes that the light might
one day replenish my soul.

In silence
In the shadows
Watching
Waiting
Hoping
Crying
Slowly dying.

I loved the opening stanza - it really hooked me in to your plaintive soliloquy. You also expressed a lot of hope and yearning in this piece as well. Quite beautiful. Thanks for your comments on my postings.
