[hometext] => Wrote this after a few drinks with a young lady I'd just met at a local poetry reading. It's odd to run into someone who brings the past back so vividly.

Open to a room I once knew So well so long ago It seems more than many Lifetimes past Since last we met But of this You have no recall That much has happened Since once we spoke Where shadows embraced Spirit paths that couldn’t sing the same melody dance the same step or remain together past the opening act of a very sad play Perhaps it’s the smile That encourages memory Of new lovers Riding alone And a roar of the engine Beneath us That carried two runaways Into each others arms For too short a time Perhaps it’s the image Of youth, hope and wonder You still wear so well That over 20 years later My heart will stumble And trip like a fool When I try so very very hard Not to let on That I understand at least a little This vision just beyond reach One more time © July 28 2000 Kent Mackey [comments] => 1 [counter] => 156 [topic] => 22 [informant] => KM [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LostLove )
