Array ( [sid] => 75133 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Black and White [time] => 2004-12-10 01:18:36 [hometext] => *** Rilke. *sigh* The quote that I've included here has meant more to me than any other I've ever read. Incredibly, I learn more of it's meaning as time passes (and yes, I'm beginning to repeat myself - I know - it just can't be helped) *** [bodytext] =>

I want to beg you, as much as I can,
to be patient toward all that is unsolved
in your heart and to try to love the questions
themselves like locked rooms and like books
that are written in a very foreign tongue.
Do not seek the answers, which cannot
be given you because you would not be able
to live them.
And the point is to live everything.
Live the questions now.
Perhaps you will then gradually,
without noticing it, live along
some distant day into the answer.

- Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) from Letters to a Young Poet

************************

Let me introduce the sky to night
To usher in the black
I will steal the stars from the air
And refuse to give them back
Let me live the questions emphatically
To discover what I lack
When I know the darkness inside out
I’ll transition from the black

And… then

Let me close my eyes to nothingness
And open them to white
Stepping myself forward without pause
Resisting the urge for flight
Let me learn to reach for tomorrow
And not fear reality’s bite
I remember dancing and again I may
I shall not be timid in white

Finally…

I can see the black and white
I can separate what’s grey
And piece by piece
And day by day
I will find
A way

To dance. [comments] => 19 [counter] => 356 [topic] => 21 [informant] => Silent-No-More [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 35 [ratings] => 7 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

Dance my friend, as if you never have before or never will again. Tomorrow is too uncertain to wait.
Masterfully written

Terrific quote - and inspired write.

Let me introduce the sky to night
To usher in the black
I will steal the stars from the air
And refuse to give them back

Bang up start to a great poem.

Oh, SNM, you have read my thoughts.
A friend once gave me the quote above.
May I share your write with her?

O_O Wow.

And that is all I can say.

...Ok, so not really, I'm too much of a loudmouth to stay quiet after such a fantastic poem.
I'm stunned hun. I truly adore this, and I do not understand it one bit. lol. Heehee.
I must say though, I prefer the first stanza, I think it is beautiful and the flow is alot better than the second.
Still, it is all perfect, because it was written by you.

*hugs you tons*

I don't pretend to know all what the poem means; but strikes me as coming out of the darkness into the light. It is as if once the darkness is better understood you are better able to see the white....even distinguish the gray. Let me know if I am way off....

The write was captivating, profound and very creative.

Another great write. The flow and word
choice is very effective. I like how you
expanded upon the idea of life being in black
and white and then finding the ability to see beyond that.

This is quite a poem, from whom I can only imagine, is quite a poet. This is the first of your offerings I have read, but it will definitely not be the last. I must find out if you’re really as good as I think you are, or if I’ve made my first mistake ever.

May each offering I read be better than the one before. For some reason I believe they will be.

Congrats on a fine piece.

It is so incredible how you express yourself. No matter what you write about, you form the words in such amazing fashion.

Might I add that this is very, very thought provoking. Well, to me it is....about life and all...our journey through; falling down and getting back up.

Another wonderful poem from the pages of Silent-No-More. :-)

Timber
(who's been up all night and no sleep in sight so just may be babbling incoherently but knows darn well you are an incredible poetess)
