Consciousness ebbed in slowly
Much like a returning tide
I could still hear the voice
Different now and yet so familiar
Possessed with the knowledge that
Another entity existed within my head

The pain of opening my eyes
Compared little to the hurt within hers
I could not believe she was here
I could not believe I was here
I recognized this place
Surely it could not still exist

I was … reborn here
Just beyond that door
So many moons ago
I had long since stopped keeping count
And yet … here I was
And right there before me, stood Melodie

Hers, was the voice I had heard
Only now, it was as I recalled
From nights long since passed
Soft, low, seductive and instructive
She taught through suggestion and her students
Learned through practical application

Oh, and how I had applied myself
Night upon night, studying
Experimenting with techniques
Extensive trial and error
Even though our time had been short
Only she knew her body better than I

She spoke, bringing me back
From that distant recollection
“My foolish, fragile Flower
Have you learned nothing in your time away?
What of the signs, my love? Was she
So alluring, that you could not see the signs?”

She began to fade, as did her voice
“You must learn to see the signs”
Images of the farmhouse dimmed
I felt time and place distort
Pulled by forces unseen, back
To where I lay with a hole in my chest

It hurt to move, so I lay considering
What was it that I had missed?
I separated my mind from the pain
Reviewing the earlier events of the night
Watching from outside of myself
In the manner Melodie taught me to see her

The first sign, the eyes, I had thought
They spoke of experience, not seeing what kind
And what of the room and the tales it told
No window, sunlight would not disturb her slumber
Not a single mirror adorned the walls
Less awkward to explain than no reflection

Tapestries of dark reds were hung instead
Black furs covered the necessary floor areas
The bedding was deep, rich red and black to match
The colors alone were not enough to cause suspect
However with the other signs added
This room was a torture chamber in disguise

Realizing my nearly fatal mistake
I forced myself into a sitting position
I turned slowly and watched her, amazed
She appeared to be regaining her senses as well
Attuned to a higher state of awareness
I stiffly removed my decimated clothing

She sat for a moment, staring at my chest
With a heavy sigh, she gathered and lifted her hair
Turning her back to me, she displayed her neck
A crescent moon and a trilled note
Adorned her flesh just below the hair line
Smaller replicas of the markings on my chest

Ah, the great storyteller prevails once more!! An excellent twelfth Blood Flower submission, my friend!! Beautiful recollections, a wonderful journey to the past, retelling the tale of the notorious hunter, and his precious Melodie...

The voice of this piece seemed melancholic, as if the dark hunter had lost something very dear to him... All of it seemed as though living within a dream, not knowing the difference between fantasy and reality... Oh, but such splendor, such love...who would ever want to wake up? Exquisite images are still being painted...maybe a story will be woven by my hands later on... We shall see what La Luna has in store for me. Fabulous piece, Scotty! Thank you so much for sharing. Forever,

Votre cheri fleur.

I can't recall if I have read any of your poetry prior to this but to say I am impressed would be understated. After reading this--to be honest---my first inclination is to state that this was really good. It is evident you are talented, great with words, an imaginitive spirit, intelligent and great with titles.

I think the first stanza
provokes readers to
want to
read what came before.

Keep doing that.

The ending,
I'm not so sure
if it's as intriguing,
but it's cool that you're
stilll writing these.

I hope development
of this story poem
series goes well.

It's cool that some people
(is the count up to four yet?)
try to do something
rather than just write the same
old recycled
clone poetry.
