alone in the midst of chaos
ignoring the lives that went on around us
And knowing that
all that mattered was this

You and me together
keeping close for fear of separation
secretly worried that this moment should flee

You and me together
a memory built to withstand time
safe behind glass, high on a shelf
the moment stares down
and ridicules, knowingly

You and me together
a past that's long forgotten
wondering who we've become

You and me together
knowing what we could have been
our minds are reminded everyday
but our hearts are left abandoned
with nothing but regret

You and me together
happy with how things were
unaware of how they'd be

You and me together
waiting for the moment to make its return
telling ourselves that a comeback is imminent
silently hanging on in vain
to a moment that has come and gone

You and me together
ignoring the cries of our hearts
even as they weaken

You and me together
truly alone at last
forgetting what's been said and done
and trying with all our hearts
to recapture what has left us

A picture on a shelf,
A movie that's unfinished,

It's good to find writers who use love as a medium of expression. Very nice literary piece!
