I lay awake at night
Too scared to fall asleep
For I know
I’ll see that face
That haunts me in my dreams
I see the face
The one kids imagine
As a monster’s from a fairytale
Bloodcurdling and gruesome
With beady black eyes and
Wrinkles etched with pure hatred
I try not to blink
For I can hear the screams
And feel the pain
Every time I do
I let my eyes close
As I drift off to sleep
Only two words
Escape my lips
Hello Father
