Had a break down
Parents up at night
Kept up everytime by fright
Stress took over their lives
Because the monsters came out

It took a lot longer to leave
Then the day it came
But soon it was forgotten
And locked away
Things got normal
Parents were happy
And as long as that was so
To the little girl, nothing else mattered

Fifth grade reered its ugly head
Every day she wished she could be dead
No friends to sit with
No one to talk to
And and the stress came back to the parents
And the monsters came back too

This is just a little problem
Mommy said to daddy
Well take her out of here
Place her somewhere she’ll be happy
And maybe just maybe
She will have some friends
And we can all be
One big happy family again.

7th grade exploded
after only one year of happiness
little girl wouldn’t go to school
she was having a break down again
somehow the monsters came back
without even trying
she brought the monsters back again
and and left the whole family crying
and brought those years of stress

learned how to hide her fears
controlled the break downs too
so no one could see them but her
and no one in the family knew
instead of scaring the monsters away this time
she locked them up inside her
and kept then trapped against their will
to devour her and terrify her

8th grade got messy
the little girl learned to cut
she learned how good the pain feels
and how it hurts so much
parents were devastated
the monsters came back
they didn’t know they had been there this whole time
digesting their little girl like a snack

two months of therapy
is all it seemed to take
and their little girl was smiling
ofcourse she was the only one who knew it was fake
and the monsters were not destroyed
they still lingered inside her
and the parents had no idea
the monsters still lurked there right beside her

9th grade proved to be the worst
to these two parents filled with stress
the little girl found out about drugs
and became intrigued by the mess
parents took her back
to the useless therapy
hoping this time that
the monsters wouldn’t intervene

she promised and she promised
shed never do it again
but all it took was a month or two
and a special little friend
that supplied her with anything
and everythign that filled her dreams
all that her parents catching her had done
was teach her how to make them think she was clean.

Summer seemed like it would be a relief
To the ‘happy’ little family
But little did they know
Their not so little girl was on her way to breakdown number 3
And this time they didn’t recognize her
And even she herself thought she had gone crazy
She never left the house
Couldn’t even sit down to watch tv
Just locked herself in her room
And stayed there hidden
Hoping shed never have to leave
Or ever be seen outside again

It took some more therapy
To get rid of these monsters that came back
And it seemed like they were getting stronger
Because they knew just how to attack
And for awhile, she was happy
She didn’t want drugs or anything
She liked being who she was
And wasn’t prepared for what was coming

10th grade started out smoothly
happy and stress-free
until the monsters decided to strike
and snapped the girl out of her dream
and there they were again
those ugly and beautiful things
pills, and alcohol, and cigarettes
bottles and bottles of things
she couldn’t take no for an answer
and started it all over again
her parents are still clueless
as the monsters celebrated their win.

Now you can see her
That not so little girl
Slumping into school with her clothes
Covering all her fresh new scars
Waiting in the bathroom
For that person to bring her the gift
A handfull more of pills, and anything she can get
Yes that once so delicate girl
gave into the monsters power
And its sad to say
That to this day
Those parents can never save her.

i don' t know if this is a personal write, but it's pretty personal to me...and you're right, it's not always caused by the parents. some ppl just start out life in a shaky way and never really get back on track no matter how many ppl love them. well i hope that girl can find peace with herself soon. thanks for sharing it was an awesome poem.
