Together They Stand

I know our words burned each other’s hearts like a Fire,
We had been mad and our fury had torn through the house like a wind,
Our yells were those that the ocean would make when it crashes fearlessly against cliffs of stone,
The stone that stands tall and acts like it doesn’t matter,
The ocean wanting it to matter,
Through it all the two are still joined together,
And when a storm comes they brave it as one,
Then the ocean and the stone calm just as the words burned on the heart will cool,
My mother the cliffs of stone
And me the restless ocean.

I love the last two lines. I'm struggling through the teen years with my own daughter, and I really can see both sides. It's a tough time, but tough times can make both of you stronger and stronger together.
