Sport?

Contributed by Unaekseveer1 on Saturday, 23rd November 2002 @ 01:20:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Oh dear! Said the deer,
Hunting season once again!
I'm sick of being chased
Around the woods by simple men!

Why won't they go away?
And play a proper sport,
One that's played with a bat
And/or a ball of some sort!

I know just what you mean!
They send oh me so pale,
Why won't they let me live in peace?
Without fear, said the whale!

Elephant yawned so tearfully,
Right round the clock from dusk.
They shoot down all my friends,
For their feet and for their tusks!

They do not even require,
Our flesh for food to eat!
Because they're not so starving,
They simply discard our meat!

Flapping round entangled with reeds,
In a panic was little duck!
To blast away at without thought,
To just not give a fig!

Stop being so delusional,
We've topped this tree of life!
There's no need to play this bloody murder,
Didn't we invent a fork and knife?

Dean, This is a great poem, it brought tears to my eyes. Being an animal lover as I am I think that hunting is just so CRUEL!!!!!!!!! It makes me sick to think that people actually kill animal for sport. I think that it is insane. As you can see I am very passionately against hunting. I am going to stop now before I continue to vent the anger that hunting brings out in me. I love the poem.

I'm pleased you liked this one Candice,
As I too feel very strongly about this sort of disgusting behaviour! Especially when the individuals who do it for fun say that it's good for the countryside and natural! Huh!! Not any more, we're not starving!! There are better ways!
Thankyou again for your kind words.

With love
Dean:-)

very nice write DEan. I admire your way of putting the thoughts of many in it.
I do hunt, that is when Im able to. But you see, I hunted for meat, to survive. not the trophy of the stack or a trophy of a head or what other body parts sell on the Poachers market. We do need to keep the population of animals down, but done so with education of what is right to do so. Our poachers and then there are those who have animal farms you can hunt out a big game animal, guareeteed a hit. I don't beleive in that. I do beleive in keeping the population of game down due to rabies that is natural in them, so as we the head of the food chain, have messed up the natural chain. We could do right if we just hunted like they did in the pinoneer days to survive and live and right the ways for animals to propigate and then have our animals beauty and our meat as well, without having to extinct any animal species. Unfortnately in todays world, we eat up needless animals lives for needless human ammenities. Hunting isn't cruel, if done so the way it suppose to be done. But because its considered a sport, which I don't consider it a sport. More like a human walking around with an armed weapon and will practically shoot at anything that moves, before seeing what it is first. Some even have drinking binges before they go to sleep, just a couple of hours before going out in the woods. Makes you wonder just how safe it is out there. It isn't. Humans are my worst enemy in the woods, not animals. The animals are there and only defending thier world as they know it. IF only we left hunting the way it was in the old pinoneer days, we wouldn't have this problem of extinction and people running around on snowmobiles and 3-4wheelers chasing animals til they die. I don't call that sport. I call that poor sportmanship. I call hunting for survival. and that is what I do. That is what animals are here for, but not to extinct or kill them in excess as other things in God's light, not to do in excess. Just another human aspect we have ruined in Gods eyes. ONe more thing we have already taken away for those who do know how to do the right things.
I beleive in your write here, but as a hunter, I also hunt to survive, not to let an animal to go t waste. AS for the body parts and as such, they are the poachers who do this kind of stuff. You have to make sure you classify those who really do survive on the meat to live in hunting. Not all hunters are bad. remember not to generalize. if you truly believe in abhoring hunting, then you should be a true vegatarian. For I don't agree on some tactics on the big meat and poultry companies as to what they do to thier farm animals and how they get processed. I know, I grew up on a farm,a nd help in the process as a young adult. not a pretty site. A true hunter is one who comes home empty handed when he cant get a clean shot, or just waits patiently, in the cold and wait, and make sure its a good clean shot, and also the right season allowed to hunt as by the law. Sometimes, not everyone comes home with the meat they need to live off of for the winter. just some thoughts as not to critize all hunters. Im a good hunter and follow the rules I need to, and also use my head too.

Phew Amber,
I totally agree with you!
So I guess it was lucky for me that I entitled this write 'Sport?' then, so as not to generalize or pre judge peolple who hunt to actually eat their bag!

Thankyou for your comments Amber, you know I always appreciate them for helping me write better.

With love
Dean:-)
