Father

Contributed by Blue on Saturday, 23rd November 2002 @ 11:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

when i was younger, you used to hit me
if i did something wrong...
it was just a spanking nothing serious...
but i see that you hated me all along
i was such a rebellious child
with a mind so different from yours
and now that i'm seventeen almost grown
i can see winning your love is a chore

you hold out bits of love to me
whenever i do what you ask
then snatch them away when i speak my mind
an almost unbearable task
you don't like my clothing you don't like my hair
you don't like the things that i am
and i want to hate you as someone who's hurt me
but i seriously doubt that i can

father why don't you love me?
what did i do to you?
was it my individuality that frightens?
was it the crazy kid stuff i do?

maybe someday you will see what you've done
realize that i'm someone worthy of your love
until then i can only go through the motions
of loving you
like you just won't love me...

My father never hit me but he completely ignored me.Which isn't any better than being hit by him would have been I enjoyed reading your poem. And I know what you are going through. I am 20 and I still love my father even though he has never showed me once that he cared. I wrote a poem about him called "Why Doesn't He Love Me". Perhaps you could read it and get another person view on a similar situation. Great poem.

I just wanted to say that this brings a question to my mind, if kids feel this way about their parent or parents ...maybe they should ask if they really know how their parent feels deep down inside and what causes them to act that way. I seem to be running into a communication chat alot lately lol... i think communication is important, maybe you should ask your father how he really feels....Thanks for sharing this one i enjoyed it alot

*sigh* this one made me cry... my father hit me, among other things my whole life...his way of showing he cared....was to put down his budweiser and punch me in the face... so i know where you come from...i love him more then ever, but i hate him just as much... i hope he gets what he diserves where he is now...
