So desperate and ravenous
I, too, would have spat at the hand that gave it
And remained so anxious and starving
So hopeless and empty

In this state, you dig,
As though you are searching
But you seek nothing
Rejecting the hand that reaches from the surface
Burrowing yourself far from it

You grow paler with every strike at the earth
The living dead, so thirsty for life
But you dare not stop
Too easy, therefore so hard
To let go of the spade that digs your grave

What is this force that drives you,
To which you find yourself so weak and powerless?
Can you not see the forces that bade you
And these chains to which you cling?
Will you not taste and see the choice of a far better fate?

But you have dulled all your senses
Betraying yourself to the counsel of lies
Enslaving yourself to your futile digging, to which there is no end
My pity, my sincere pity
To you, oh so desperate and ravenous!

What a scary poem. This happens to so many people I've known, and it almost happened to me. Thats the scariest part for me. I hate the feeling that you speak of, and you speak about it so strongly and effectively. I really enjoyed this poem.
