This one, then --- because I read a dragonfly's words. *** [bodytext] =>

“I see her as having the large, transparent, breakable, and increasingly ragged wings of a dragonfly – her poor, shy, driven life, the blind terror behind her bravado, her deadly increasing pace… her bravery while she lasted.”

Robert Lowell (of her) in Anne Sexton: The Artist and Her Critics (edited by J. D. McClatchy)

It's undeniable
A solid line drawn through the years
As time reverses itself, binding all of us
She, She, She,
And Me
(we are but echoes of a sage)

A Pulitzer Prize
A final act, another pen set down
What was that poem I cannot recall?
Hers, Hers, Hers,
And Mine
(the words not yet on the page)

pause

They spoke, speak
To each other often, to me now
Eight feet set in the same concrete, six under
A New England lane, a Spanish side street
Somewhere?

That day, the day!
How could I have not known?, blind
I am, but not dumb- I, like them, cannot be
It’s the same silly inkblot, the same response
Somehow.

October again, again
Over and over it taunts me, inquiring
How to live the coincidence but not dissect it?
When the day, the month, the year are begging so
Sometime…

breathe

I should just climb into bed
With a nice piece of cake.

“What matters is her poems. These last poems stun me. They eat time.”

Sexton, in “The Barfly Ought To Sing” in Triquarterly (1965); reprinted in Ariel Descending: Writings About Sylvia Plath.
Edited by Paul Alexander (New York, 1985).

This makes me think of the scene in Under the Tuscan Sun when the crazy blonde is holding the baby duck to her face. It carries that kind of wonder.

Lots of thoughts on this poem. Firstly I must say TALENT! You know you could be an author, poet/ess, screen writer etc. I just see so much waiting on the verge inside of you.

Gosh, you write well and then some.

Very impressed here.

Kie

Here is to hoping that in some distant future those eight feet may be joined by a few more and our voices added to their choruses as the words are whispered upon the winds to the starving hungry ears and eyes of tommorrow.

* Lifts glass in silent ( notes the unintended pun, decides to leave it in for it's muliple meanings to self and possible others ) tribute
of adoration and admiration.

Well done.

To be honest, I didn't feel I fully understood the entire poem ... so I won't guess. But what I do recognize is a very talented writer with a bright and creative mind. I was so impressed with the way you communicate your ideas. It appears to me that you are a gifted writer.

To me, it was an awesome write.

Love ya hun,

I am not disappointed - you are inspired here - You seem to really do well when writing about other creative forces - Capturing a bit of their spirit in your own hand,
I guess.

Thanks for writing

I've read this one before but found a lot of references unfamiliar, so left it for another time and another couple of reads. Its a well constructed and exceptional piece, and like most of the best poetry I've read, contains elements and references that are so personal and 'of the moment of the poet' that they remain elusive and intangible. I think you'll look at this one over time and go 'Wow, did I really write that?" Yes, you did.

This is without a doubt the best I have read yet on this site. powerful and concrete. Your style reflects Plath and Sexton both of which are my favorites. Agonizingly wonderful!!!
