I remember when every day was mine
The world is no longer the same place
I only have the same face
But on the inside I have aged
Continuously turning the crinkled page
Passing through my life
Day by day

Not changing radically
Taking my time to become
The person I’m meant to be

Try to change me, try to push
And I’ll tell you to kiss my skinny white tush
I am who I am
And I won’t change for anyone
What makes you so special?

I am my own person; I have my own life
I’m not going to become anyone’s wife
I’ll never become who you want me to be
So why try to force it, why not just flee?

I know what you want
But I’m not that girl
And I know I never will be
So stop

Don’t try to change me
Please let me live the way I want
Let me make mistakes and learn
Let me fall in love and get my heart broken
Let me grow and change at my own pace
I’m not trying to win a race

If you can’t accept that
Why are you still here?
You could have been gone
Long ago
But you aren’t
Why?

Is it because you like me for who I am?
Do you accept me at face value?
Did you judge me when we met?
Do you still think of me that way?
Have I changed in your eyes?
Am I still wearing some kind of disguise?

I know I’ve changed and I hope you have too
As for me, it’s my turn to fly
I’m leaving now and not looking back
