wrapped up in soiled sheets.
My mother is homeless
sleeping on stained sidewalks.
The body that carried us for nine months
is now broken and bound in dirty sheets.
Her beautiful soft and supple skin
is cracked and bleeding,
blistered and sun baked.
Eyes too tired to open
with bags to hold the ocean of tears.
She no longer falls asleep "wanting"
only dying.
How did Mary fall from Grace?
Night after night, she prayed for the living
and the dead
but, the livivng have no clue
and the dead know all to well.
(their lips are sown shut)
We fight wars we don't understand
but we can't care for our eldery.
As a nation,
we poke our nose into the lives
of people we don't know
(it's all about control)
but we don't try to help ourselves.
If we are so "rich"
then where is help for our humanity?
If we care so much
then why are people rotting on our streets
as we turn a blind eye to their suffering?
(We all have our own suffering)
Homelessness
Hunger
Poverty
these are NOT options.
I walk by her and my heart explodes,
a gaping hole now in my chest.
I can not help her in a way that she needs,
that is beyond my capabilities
but,
the blood that flow from the hole in my heart,
she can drink,
knowing she now occupies the space
where my beating heart used to be. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 157 [topic] => 8 [informant] => Nardo [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => AmericanTragedy )

I ask those same questions..if we can try and conquer space..go to war..why can't we help the homeless..give them medical care? The government thinks of them as useless..nothings. I've spoken to people about it because my grown is homeless..I keep taking him in..but he's mentally ill and .. my help doesn't help. He leaves and then he's out there again..he needs medical attention ..and there's no place for him to go and our government just wants him and the rest to go away..they make us look bad..it's really sad..Great write.
