Harsh ominous sound
When you are expecting that call
I could tell by the tone of your voice
I knew she was dead
Not exactly sorrow by sadness
She was so old and tired
Still I remember when she was
The age I am now
Then you fumble for the phonebook
Start to call the family
The same questions and answers
Repeated now a half dozen times
You grow weary
I hold you for a moment
Feel you starting to crumble
I think she is happier now
Her spirit lifted up to heaven
If that is what you believe
Her earthly trials are over
Cheers to her for eternity
I go to look for your suit in the closet

It’s the telephone ringing

So sorry for your lost, but she feels no pain or heartache now..that's a blessing at least.

Please accept my sincere condolences on your families loss. I hope the healing comes quickly for you all. You will always have your memories and she will be watching over you always.

This is very good; it captures the mood and
subdued atmosphere of the initial impact
upon hearing of a death in the family, even
though you have been expecting it. It has now
come to pass

Told from the perspective of ' wife as observer'
who is not as emotionally affected as her grieving
husband who has lost his mother.

Muttering the quiet platitudes which one does
at times like this, and the taking care of practical
considerations such as heading for the closet to
dig out the suit which is likely only worn for special
occasions like weddings and funerals.

Really excellent work!
